Etihad, one of the most favoured options for international travel, has launched Etihad Regional, based in Switzerland. This has been done to provide better connectivity for travellers who frequent between the different countries in Europe. The new airline will, however be operated by Darwin Airline, a Swiss name, having its headquarters in Lugano. The first aircraft to be inducted to its fleet was a Saab 200 having 50 seats in total. It was recently displayed at the Zurich Airport along with an Airbus A330-300 model of the national carrier of United Arab Emirates (UAE). The new aviation will have a fleet comprising 10 aircraft and all of them will be adorned in the new colours by June this year.
Officials of Etihad Airways airline were pleased to announce about this event and looked forward to improve the connectivity in Europe. There have also been talks about the popular airline looking to buy one-third stake in Darwin Airlines. If these reports are to be trusted, then this Swiss carrier is set to become the fourth carrier in Europe to partner the UAE aviation giant.
Number of Destinations to be doubled by mid of 2014
Etihad has been favoured for providing connectivity between most popular locations across the world like Pune to Bangkok flights. Its Regional service currently operates to 15 destinations in Europe. By the middle of 2014, the number of its destinations will be increased to over 30. The flight codes will have the codes of the UAE carrier subject to approval. Apart from this, if some of the stakes of Darwin are bought in the future, it would be able to codeshare its flights to several destinations. Besides, the frequent flyer program will be merged and passengers will be able to add and redeem miles on their accounts.
