The princely state of Rajasthan is the largest state in terms of area in the country. The Sariska National Park
Nestled in the Aravalli mountains, the Sariska National Park is world-famous for its tiger reserve and wildlife sanctuary. Spread across an area of about 866 sq. km., the park was a conferred as a wildlife reserve in the year 1955. Later in 1978, it was acknowledged as a tiger reserve. This park is home to wild animals such as jackal, Bengal fox, leopard, wild dog, Indian Grey Mongoose, common palm civet, hyena and jungle cat, among others. Besides wild animals, this park is an abode for varied species of birds including golden-backed wood pecker, grey partridge, peafowl, crested serpent eagle, bush quail and sand grouse.
This national park is especially popular for its tiger population, and the best time to visit here to catch glimpses of this amazing creature is from October till June. The park is home to royal Bengal tigers, which can be seen during safari tours. Most animals come to water holes, and it is there where you can successfully spot them.
Located in the area of this national park is also a 16th century historical building called the Kankwadi Fort, which was built by Maharaja Jai Singh II. The Sariska Palace that can also be found in this place, once served as the hunting ground for Jai Singh II.
