Hand And Checked Baggage Rules Of The Indigo Airlines | indigo baggage allowance

Go Indigo is the foremost LCC operator of India which provides domestic and international flights. The people, who are looking to fly on this airline, would invariably require the information on the baggage allowance permitted by the airline. This information is useful for the flyers to plan their luggage in better way, saving the last minute hassles. Indigo permits luggage to be carried as checked-in baggage or hand baggage. Here are some of the rules related to these baggage types allowed by the airlines:
Checked-in Baggage
For the domestic flights, the Indigo airlines allow the passengers to carry a check-in baggage of 20 kg per adult and child above the age of two years. For the international flights to and from Dubai and Muscat, the airline allows free baggage of 30 kgs per adult and child. Further, there is a restriction on the dimensions of the baggage. It does not allow the sum of the baggage dimensions (L+B+W) to exceed 158 cm per baggage. For carrying excess baggage, the airline charges an extra sum of Rs 200 per kg on each of the domestic sector flown (including Kathmandu as well). However, for the international flights, the charges vary as per the station.
In case you need to carry some large equipment as checked-in baggage in domestic flights, there is a separate levy of fee of Rs 1000 per piece of equipment per sector and this is charged over and above any excess baggage charge which might be applicable. For the international flights this sum is Rs 2000 for ex-India flights and prices for other destinations are as in the currency of the station.
The hand baggage can be kept at three places in the Indigo airplane. It can be kept in the overhead bin, under the seat and in the Baggage Compartment. Only one handbag per passenger is allowed to be carried whose weight shall not be in excess of 7 kgs and the whose dimensions shall be not exceeding 55cm length+35cm width+25cm height. However, the ladies can additionally carry one handbag. Further, you are also allowed to carry one laptop but without the baggage.
If there is an infant accompanying you then an additional hand baggage with the same set of limitations is allowed. You are also allowed to carry the liquids on-board provided each liquid pack is maximum 100 ml of volume. However, you can have a number of these packed full to a transparent 1 liter re-sealable plastic pack.
The same rules of hand baggage allowance apply to the cheap international flights of Indigo as well.

Iam traveling to Kochi with a 42″ LED TV, is there any extra charges i have to pay for the same?

  4. If you are traveling to Kochi from a domestic destination:
    1. One person is allowed to carry maximum of two LED/LCD TVs as checked-in baggage.
    2. The dimension of one such TV shall not exceed 55 inches, though you will be required to pay the extra handling charges if the size of TV is more than 39 inches. In your case, these charges will have to be paid as you are carrying a 42 inch TV. I think that IndiGo charges Rs 1000 as extra handling charges.
    3. In case the weight of the baggage (including that of the TV) is more than free baggage allowance (which is 20kgs per person), then the excess weight will be charged at the applicable Excess Baggage Rate (Rs 210/excess kg).

If you are coming from an international destination on an IndiGo flight, then:

    1. Extra handling fees for carrying a TV of more than 39 inch dimension from various destinations to Kochi are: Singapore (SGD 50), Dubai (AED 150), Bangkok (THB 1300), Muscat (OMR 16), Nepal (NPR 3200).
    2. Similarly, if the weight of your baggage is more than your free baggage allowance (which is 30 kg per adult and child for Dubai and Muscat, and 20 kg for other destinations), then you will have to additionally pay the following excess checked-in baggage rates per excess kg: Singapore (SGD 15), Dubai (AED 40), Bangkok (THB 315), Muscat (OMR 4), Nepal (NPR 320)
I have provided the information to the best of my knowledge. I hope that this works with you.

  5. Abhinav says:

Which airline allow 50 inch tv

    • Airlines do allow 50 inch TVs but you might have to pay extra charges for increase in weight over and above the free allowance weight, and also for the increase in size of the TV over and above the maximum free allowed limit (39 inches, in case of Indigo).

  6. Shail says:

I am travelling Mumbai to Jaipur along with 1.1yr old baby.
is baby can carry 10kg as international flights allow so also can i carry car-seat of baby?should i need to pay extra for that?

  7. Children below 2 years of age are ‘infants’. Generally, airlines do no allow carrying infants in a separate seat. These are required to be seated in the laps of adults. IndiGo and SpiceJet charge Rs 1000 as fee per infant (without seat) inclusive of all taxes on domestic sector flights. For the international flights on IndiGo, you can check the fees applicable on the website of the airline.
It shall be noted that the infants do not qualify for free hand baggage allowance. But, you can carry an extra checked-in baggage of 7 kgs on IndiGo and 3 kgs on SpiceJet international flights for one infant, within their prescribed size limits.
IndiGo and Spicejet do not allow car seats for babies in the cabin. So, you can only take it as a checked-in baggage.
Also, you can take only one infant per adult.

  8. neha says:

I am tarvelling from Mumabai to chandigarh on Indigo. I have two laptops. Is it possible to carry both laptops in cabin lagguage.

    • Dear Neha,
You can carry only one laptop as cabin luggage. If you carry two, it will be counted as two cabin luggage and you will not be able to carry any handbaggage along with these. So, carry only 1.

    • You can carry upto 30 kgs of free checked in baggage on IndiGo while travelling to or from Dubai or Muscat (for other sectors of travel, the limit is 20 kgs) per adult or child.

If you want to carry more than the ‘free’ allowance, then you will have to pay excess charges on per excess kg of weight and the rates vary according to the international sector you are flying.

    Many Thanks,

    • Indigo Allows 20 kg free allowance for one adult and child. This means that if you are traveling alone and carrying two suitcases of 20+20kgs, then you will have to pay extra charges on excess baggage of 20 kgs only.
